Condition Monitoring
Condition Monitoring pursues two goals: safety and machine efficiency.
The monitoring of the machine condition is the mandatory prerequisite for condition-based maintenance.
The recording of vibration signals is an integral part for the monitoring of machinery and equipment.
With suitable measurement data acquisition and analysis, a proactive maintenance strategy can be introduced. That means, if interfering signals occur, corrective measures such as balancing, alignment, tightening screws, and lubricating are to proceed in early stage in order to avoid server damages to critical machine components such as rolling bearings and gearboxes. Thus, the service life is increased and the energy consumption significantly reduced.
It is distinguished in:
1. Offline condition monitoring
A measuring route is recorded at defined intervals by an employee or external service provider using a mobile data collector and later analyzed on a computer with analysis software. The trend is observed.
2. Online condition monitoring
Sensors are permanently installed in the machine and connected to a multi-channel central signal processing system. The data are recorded continuously or at predetermined intervals and forwarded via Ethernet on a data memory to one or more computers. The analysis of the data takes place with appropriate software internally or by external service providers. The trend is observed.
Online Condition Monitoring is now often discussed in relation to "Industry 4.0".
